It’s 1970 and Esmeralda Luna, who has recently graduated from the University of Oregon., suddenly learns that her widowed father has been reported missing and is believed to be somewhere in Mexico. Despite her godparent’s warnings, Es boldly travels to the volcano-ridden area of the Pico de Orizaba where her where her father is assumed to have ventured. Relying on a cryptic clue as to his whereabouts, Es and her adopted dog Xolo, hike into the hidden valley of Citlaltepetl where she confronts and ancient Aztec curse that threatens to impede her quest.
